Now for the first time in decades – a prominent El Paso entry in the League’s 1927 Texas Wildflowers Competition is available for sale! The work is a 16x24 inch oil-on-canvas titled Desert Gold by early El Paso artist Eugene Thurston. The piece is in good condition, still in the frame it has occupied since 1927, and still with the brittle paper of its San Antonio Art League entry on the back, confirming its authenticity.

Eugene Thurston’s works have been appreciating in value, sustained for many years by his descendants’ close hold on many of his pieces – and boosted most recently by his inclusion in the El Paso Museum of Art exhibit, Into the Desert Light-Early El Paso Art, 1850-1960, based on the newly-published book of the same title.

This is a rare opportunity to own an original Eugene Thurston (painted in 1926) for the best offer beginning at $9,000. The Encaustic International Art Studio & Gallery in El Paso is acting as broker. To find out how you can “own a piece of the dream,” contact Brigitte von Ahn or Gary Warner at 581-4737 or 833-0454.
